Supply-chain interviews often test how you manage trade-offs under uncertainty.

Good answers show the decision framework, data needed, stakeholders affected and how you would verify the result.

Core questions

"How would you investigate falling OTIF?"

Break the metric into components.

Ask:

  • demand/orders changed?
  • inventory available?
  • supplier late?
  • production late?
  • warehouse delay?
  • carrier delay?
  • customer window issue?

Stratify by product, customer, site, supplier and lane.

"What makes a good supply-chain KPI?"

A useful KPI has:

  • clear definition;
  • correct grain;
  • reliable data;
  • owner;
  • target;
  • action when off-target.

Planning scenarios

"Forecast suddenly increases 30%. What do you do?"

Do not accept it automatically.

Check:

  • source of change;
  • promotion/customer event;
  • history;
  • bias;
  • inventory;
  • capacity;
  • supplier lead time.

Quantify the supply impact before consensus.

Inventory scenarios

"How would you reduce inventory without damaging service?"

Segment inventory.

Look for:

  • excess/obsolete;
  • high safety stock;
  • long lead times;
  • MOQ;
  • forecast bias;
  • duplicate SKUs;
  • poor replenishment.

Avoid blanket percentage cuts.

Procurement and supplier questions

"A supplier is cheaper but less reliable. What do you choose?"

Compare total value:

  • price;
  • service;
  • quality;
  • inventory impact;
  • expediting;
  • risk;
  • switching cost.

The lowest unit price may have higher total cost.

Logistics questions

"Freight spend is rising. Where do you look?"

Stratify by:

  • volume;
  • rate;
  • mode;
  • carrier;
  • lane;
  • expedite;
  • accessorial;
  • shipment size.

Separate mix from price.

Analytics questions

"Your dashboard and ERP totals disagree."

Check:

  • refresh time;
  • filters;
  • data grain;
  • joins;
  • duplicates;
  • cancellations;
  • unit conversions;
  • definition.

Do not manually force the totals to match.

Behavioral questions

Prepare stories about:

  • conflicting priorities;
  • bad data;
  • supplier escalation;
  • missed forecast;
  • shortage;
  • process improvement;
  • failed analysis;
  • influencing without authority.

Questions to ask

  • Which decisions does this role own?
  • What KPIs matter most?
  • How are planning/procurement/logistics responsibilities split?
  • What systems are used?
  • What is the biggest current constraint?
  • What does strong performance look like after six months?

The best interview answer is not the most polished. It makes the trade-off explicit and shows how you would decide.
